Learn MoreReading the Top of a Santa Monica Chimney
Few units here are detached houses, roughly one in five, and the old brick is concentrated in places such as the Third Street district in Ocean Park. Those early 1900s stacks are the ones we would most want to get right. Northridge in 1994 hit Santa Monica hard, cracking many chimneys and apartment buildings, and repairs from that time have aged too. Add the marine layer sitting on the bluffs almost year round, and damp is constant.
The Crown
Constant ocean damp keeps a crown soft, so we use a dense cast mix and a wide overhang for faster drying.
Joints and Flashing
Post-quake patch jobs often used hard cement on old brick, which we cut out and redo in a softer blend.
Above the Roofline
Rebuilt tops from 1994 may not have tied in well, so we test them by hand and relay anything that moves.
Booked Alongside
Santa Monica roof visits often share a day with Brentwood, West Los Angeles, Marina del Rey.
Before Any Repair
Tell us what you see on top of your Santa Monica chimney.
A cracked crown, a stain beside the stack, brick that looks out of line. That is enough for us to plan the roof visit, and we explain the build before we quote.
